Weekly Wide-Awake: A New Year
“Ring out the false, ring in the true.”
Alfred Lord Tennyson
This week marked the High Holy Days of Judaism. I am not Jewish, but the High Holy Days have always fascinated me. They are about reflection, atonement, and celebration. They mark where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. My birthday happened this week, too. In the midst of Now – in all the grief and noise and thunder – I paused to think about serendipty. I shared a poem for a new year. I gave advice to my twentysomething self. I considered the rhythm of the seasons and life always moving forward. I also remembered a conversation about birthdays that happened in Epcot several years ago.
I took the opportunity to ring out the false and ring in the true.
