Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.

The sun came up differently today./ Souls move in the changing light.// Jupiter, the moon, the good luck/ house we inhabit, the Friend, all// one presence today, this grand/ health where we’re servants to// each other. One who pours wine/ and makes toasts arrives at the// banquet just as it’s over: the/ perfect beginning for ending, as// feet become head in this new way.
Rumi
As Rumi suggests, souls move in changing light in this grand health where we are servants to each other. Being servants to each other feels important. Service as connection to self and other. Service as connection to our days. Service as connection to breath and gratitude. That is important for us all as we seek to heal our world. The light is always changing. Our souls are always moving. Our grand heath depends on one another. Our grand health is built on service, when we toast each new day, when our hands are moved by our hearts, when our feet become our heads.
