Annunciation
only able to endure it by being no one and so
From “Annunciation” by Marie Howe
specifically myself I thought I’d die
from being loved like that.
There is something magical about the Annunciation. The miracle of birth. The resonance of a still small voice. The quiet gift of calling. The knowing of stillness. The being “no one and so specifically myself.” The abundance of love manifest through us.
Looking outside literal Biblical interpretation, I believe a spark of the Divine lives in each of us. The Angel Gabriel’s announcement of Jesus to Mary, the Annunciation in Biblical teaching, is an invitation for us all to accept our Divine spark. In accepting our Divine spark, we are asked to expand our notion of what it means to give birth to include creativity, innovation, growth, connection, and love.
It has been announced. We have been invited. We have unique gifts to share with the world. We must be specifically ourselves — authentic, unique, and strong — in pursuit of a love big so big our hearts might burst.
