The Dark Part of Morning
Hope is the dark part of morning.
Elisa Gabbert
I know the dark part of morning. I know the shadows that fall at the exact right time— like the blink before we open our eyes. I know the aspirational breath that happens just before thought. I know the quiet that slowly builds elevating a grateful and sluggish chorus.
There is hope in all that. In flowers facing the rising sun. In bones and muscles that wake and move. In our mind’s eye that sees clearly like the curtain opening on a stage. In that way, darkness is not darkness. New is not new. Beginning is not beginning. Hope is not hope. It is all morning.
