A Eureka Expedition to My Bookshelf
In the spirit of joyfully taking action to solve a problem – publishing the three books I have written — I took eureka expedition to my bookshelf. A few years ago, at the height of pandemic isolation, separated physically from others, and having not connected with my love of reading for a while, I began what I called my Books Falling Club. I intentionally started reading the books on my bookshelves that I had never read. In no prescribed order. At no specific speed, other than an arbitrary desire to post about a chapter/day on my blog. Over the last two years, the activity of my Books Falling Club has waxed and waned.
This eureka expedition felt like a welcome journey back to the days of my Books Falling Group. I chose this expedition to construct the competing titles sections for the book proposals I will write. As I pilfered through books, pulling and piling and perusing, I felt absolute joy. Memories unlocked secrets. Authors whispered wisdom. Names of possible editors and publishers appeared. When overwhelm at the magnitude of the task started to creep in, just the right book would appear and reassure me. When doubt over left brain fears of measurable and demonstrable goals [How many words did you get written in the proposals?] kicked in, I relaxed into the comfortable community of books that surrounded me. I chose upwards of 50 books with which to connect. The ebb and flow of the expedition allowed me to clarify the order in which I would address the three separate proposals and reinforced my confidence in the idea that each story must be told. I have already completed a spreadsheet for the first book, my dissertation, using a framework I received from a book editor friend years ago.
