Calling Dreams
The right to make my dreams come true,
From Georgia Douglas Johnson’s “Calling Dreams“
I ask, nay, I demand of life,
We have the right to make our dreams come true. What an amazing, hopeful, optimistic, inspiring thought. It reminds me of the not yet. Writers and thinkers have mused about the not yet a long time. The not yet is the space beyond what is and what has been. The not yet is in our hands.
Philosopher Maxine Green suggests, “We are not yet.” That sounds like calling dreams to me. That sounds like open hands and hearts. That sounds like possibility, and looking beyond what is. That sounds like the act of becoming, which is life’s greatest gift.
We have the right to make our dreams come true. I would extend that to include that we have a responsibility to create a world where that right is enjoyed by everyone. That is a world where we accompany others on the paths of all our dreams. That is the world where we thrive in the now and the not yet.
