Dawn Revisited
Imagine you wake up/ with a second chance: The blue jay/ hawks his pretty wares/ and the oak still stands, spreading/ glorious shade. … The whole sky is yours/ to write on, blown open/ to a blank page. Come on,/ shake a leg!
Rita Dove
What if life is a series of second chances? In that universe, the consequence of failure is learning and growth. In that universe, judgement is an honest and gentle conversation with ourselves. In that universe, criticism is drowned out by a chorus of angels singing an expansive invitation. In that universe, competition is dancing with our edge. In that universe, life and death are embraced by understanding. In that universe, syllables comfort. In that universe, we keep score of kindness and are grateful for it all. In that universe, imagination breads possibility and shape explodes.
That is the dawn I want to revisit. That is the universe I want to live in.
