Onto a Vast Plain
Through the empty branches the sky remains.
From “Onto a Vast Plain” by Rainer Maria Rilke
It is what you have.
Be earth now, and evensong.
Be the ground lying under that sky.
Be modest now, like a thing
ripened until it is real …
Be earth now. Be earth now. Be earth now.
When fear stops me in my tracks. Be earth now.
When I watch the New York marathon and I am reminded we are steel. Be earth now.
When my internal satellite radio stays on the shame channel. Be earth now.
When I connect with a friend that I have not heard from for many years. Be earth now.
When I let failure weigh more than success. Be earth now.
When I taste a pumpkin walnut pancake. Be earth now.
When I don’t know the right words. Be earth now.
When I know the right words. Be earth now.
We I can’t get out of bed. Be earth now.
When I wake up ready to high five the day. Be earth now.
When I am insecure, lost, out of sorts, angry, hurt, lonely. Be earth now.
When I am joyful, shining, amazed, peaceful, relaxed, remembering to breath. Be earth now.
