Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.

Self-Portrait as Lilith

i am feast unto myself.
Elizabeth Acevedo, Self-Portrait as Lilith
I love the idea of being a feast unto myself. Of being whole and joyful and funny and smart and kind. Of being light and love and patience and gratitude and creativity. Of being generosity and positivity and awareness and wonder and warmth. Of being honest and truthful and courageous and beautiful and full.
When we are our own feast, our relationships add to the whole. When we are our own feast, we are enough. When we are our own feast, our bowl is empty and able to be filled. When we are our own feast, we attract others who are their own feast, too. When we are our own feast, our edges are soft and our mind is clear.
