Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer’s Day? (Sonnet 18)
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,/ So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Shakespeare
Love, like summer, is rest, stillness, and slowing down. Love, like summer, is rejuvenation, quiet, and growth. Love, like summer, breath, beauty, and joy. Love, like summer, is light, brilliance, and warmth.
Think of the perfect summer day. How is it different from an average day, say, in the fall? Pace, focus, temperature. Find summer in the taste of the peaches, watermelon, and tomatoes. Find summer in the water’s chill, the ground’s heat, and the wind’s stillness. Find summer’s music in bees, festivals, and ocean waves. Summer is all that. Love is all that, too. Know your summer in your bones.
In its simplest form, like summer, love comforts and heals. It connects and sustains. It is joyful in the way that brilliance is miraculous. It is beautiful in the way green leaves frame a blue sky. It is big, like tides, seasons, and emotions. It is eternal in the way it crosses boundaries of fear, anxiety, and breath.
