The Function of a Wing
I have read about a girl who pinned her healing to the making
From Emma Trelles’ “The Function of a Wing“
Of cranes, and how they navigate by starlight, instinct, the ancient
Maps scored inside the lace of their bones. They know how to dance.
I am that girl who navigates by starlight with ancient maps scored inside the lace of my bones. Just like cranes, my wings have carried me long distances. Just like cranes, I seek temples in peace. Just like cranes, I dance. Just like cranes, I return to love.
What of the wings and careful ascents and soft landings. What of wings and following the river that flows. What of wings and healing. What of wings and the journey home. What of the wings and soaring and imagination. What of the wings and the as if and not yet. They are perfect form and function.
I think about wings as direction and way. I think about wings as wisdom and curiosity. I think about wings as daylight and darkness. I think about wings as beginner’s mind and an empty bowl. I think about wings joy and freedom.
