Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.

Prelude

The limit of the song is this/ prelude to a journey to the outer islands, the generative sentence, waltz project, form qualities, suns, moons, rings, an inside-outside shaped with her colored clays.
Michael Palmer
I want to live like limits are preludes. I want to speak in generative sentences that are love. I want to hear songs that make me cry. I want to smell peonies and magnolia and rain. I want to color the world lilac and chartreuse and crimson. I want to feel the breadth of constellations in my grasp and mangrove mud in my toes and know in my bones everything is alright.
If limits are preludes then I need to simply start. I need to start breathing. I need to start paying attention. I need to start listening. I need to start living. I need to write the book. I need to dance with my edge. I need to forgive. I need to know perfect timing like the seasons and tides.
If limits are preludes than life is clay. Life is clay and my fingers must mold and shape my days. Life is clay and I must be generous, flexible, and patient. Life is clay and I must be open to the beauty of the shapes that emerge.
