Weekly Wide-Awake: The Travel Bug
I have been thinking about travel. How blessed I have been to travel throughout my life. What I learn when I travel. The interesting people I meet while traveling. The privilege I enjoy to be able to travel. I took annual summer road trips as a child. I have had a passport since the age of 16. My passport has stamps from all over the world. I have lived all around the country and visited most of the Unites States. I have been awestruck both in the far corners of the world and in my back yard.
I wrote about travel this week. We all have our reasons for voyaging that are unique and precious to us. Reasons that we step outside our routine and experience something else. To find strength. To dance with Here and There. To experience insignificance and awe. To explore our edge.
The last few months have been hard. A global health and economic catastrophe has been occurring before our eyes. Travel is different right now. For right now, I will read and reflect. I will tour museums virtually and listen to streamed concerts. I will watch cooking shows where famous chefs share their recipes and maybe give them a try. (May the sports world figure out its steps forward responsibly, too.) I will venture out in small and distanced ways to eat the amazing food in my city. I will find peace in the here and now, and hope that we can all safely travel again soon.
