Unfinished night
I love the untidy crowds in the streets, the idea of a night not finished
Colm Tóibín
A few years ago I was introduced to Katherine Mays, Wintering. In it, she talks about wintering as state of valuable rest. A night not finished feels like it could happen while wintering. A night not finished where we hold our shadows close. A night not finished where we comfort the parts of ourselves that have never been fully comforted (our untidy internal crowds). A night not finished where we intentionally and gently breathe, balance, and find center.
It needs to be said that a night not finished never ends, it simply ebbs and flows, waxes and wanes, falls apart and back together. We never run out of time during an unfinished night. There is time There is time enough for messy, complicated, difficult multitudes. There is time enough to rest and begin again. There is time enough for moving through all that is.
