Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.

Weekly Wide-Awake: How to Anniversary

The water is wide, I can’t cross o’er
The Water is Wide, traditional Scottish folk song, performed by Eva Cassidy
And neither do I have wings to fly
Give me a boat, carry two
And both shall row
My love and I
We celebrate our anniversary on September 19th. This song was played during our wedding at a moment when we lit candles in honor of loved ones who were with us in spirit that day. I think of that moment often as the years pass. I often feel held by the love of those that came before. I know our boat has been built on the solid foundation of their love. The flame lives on. The boat carries us as we row.
