Weekly Wide-Awake – August 1, 2020
“You are a light. You are the light. Never let anyone — any person or any force — dampen, dim or diminish your light … Release the need to hate, to harbor division, and the enticement of revenge. Release all bitterness. Hold only love, only peace in your heart, knowing that the battle of good to overcome evil is already won.”
Rep. John Lewis
This week – my self-proclaimed Gratitude Week – I want to pause in gratitude for the life and service of Rep. John Lewis. His life reminds us all of our potential, our capacity, and our responsibility, to cause “good trouble.” This week I have written about gratitude and wisdom, gratitude and broken hearts, elemental gratitude, body gratitude, gratitude and service, and gratitude and saying “Yes.” I want to end Gratitude Week, in honor of Rep. John Lewis, by describing good trouble gratitude.
Good Trouble Gratitude
Good trouble gratitude builds bridges and crosses over them. Good trouble gratitude both stands on the shoulders and lifts people up. Good trouble gratitude both wades in the water and sees from the mountaintop. Good trouble gratitude is about darkness at night and joy in the morning. Good trouble gratitude gets things done. We are called to make good trouble and live good trouble gratitude this week and beyond.
