Weekly Wide-Awake: Finding My Why
“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.”
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
This week we mark the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Our world is a more just and compassionate place because of her life and work. As I think of her example of service and excellence, I am deeply inspired to renew my commitment to doing the inner and outer work of leadership. That is what her legacy demands from all of us.
As she lay in state in the United State Capital, the first woman and Jewish person to do so, people paid their respects. I was particularly moved by the actions of her personal trainer of more than 20 years, who approached her casket, stood for a moment, and proceeded to do push ups in her honor. It was a testament to her strength and commitment to persevere.
This moment was particularly meaningful for me. I started working with a trainer this week. I recommitted to my physical health this week. This week I wrote about bodies changed, cleansing, joining gyms, connecting blogging and wellness, the merry-go-round of decision making, and leadership from within in my effort to look back and move ahead.
This week was about continuing to find my why. I watched the Simon Sinek TED talk “How great leaders inspire action” for the umpteenth time. I answered 5 layers of questions about why I am embarking on Precision Nutrition coaching.
My why boils down to finding my strength. The strength necessary to dream and set goals, to persist through ups and downs, and to achieve results. This year is the best opportunity to make that connection – inner work = outer results. This will matter because results motivate. Reaping the fruits of showing up, day after day, for a long period of time, will motivate me to live my why and live wide-awake.
