Weekly Wide-Awake: Looking Back to Look Forward
To see takes time.
Georgia O’Keefe
I have been blogging since 2007. For most of that time, my posts have appeared daily. The main purpose of my blog has been to practice the wide-awakeness that I have studied for more than 20 years. For me, practice has meant paying more attention to life, developing a writing habit, becoming a better reader and writer, and creating a community through thinking out loud through my writing. Recently, I have been editing posts that I have written over the years. The editorial process has allowed me to revisit many of the themes, ideas, and feelings that have framed my writing. I suppose that is what O’Keefe is talking about when she says it takes time to see. It takes time to see angels in a marble slab. It takes time to see peaches on trees in the spring. It takes time to see life’s poetry unfold in perfect time. It takes time to see the stones of our lives being carried as mountains are moved. It takes time to see the why, the not yet, the what if.
