Weekly Wide-Awake: Prevention
I started ghostwriting for The Ohio Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Prevention and Promotion in September 2022. As a new entity tasked with building connections within the Ohio prevention field, the Center hit the ground running. I had my running shoes on early on.
In the first six blog posts, we highlighted prevention: the people and organizations, the science and practice, the communities and coalitions. A through line of the posts is hope. The idea that prevention is fundamentally about hope shows up again and again. Prevention is hopeful, and healthy behavior starts with hope. I have learned a lot doing this work. I have been reminded that we are all connected. We all live upstream from one another. What we do with our bodies and minds makes a difference to us both individually and collectively. It is true that effective prevention requires all of us to be involved — expert prevention leaders and engaged community members of all descriptions alike. Importantly, the valuable guide provided by science has been the foundation of each piece. Taking evidence-based action produces positive results — healthy people and communities.
