Weekly Wide-Awake – Power
This week I think about power. Just power. The power of truth. The power of seeing. The power to break free from cages. Even, the power of data. At this moment when I feel powerless, I turn to the powerful. I seek to reclaim power from the daily deluge of corruption and disease of our world. I want to set my sights higher. I want to lift my spirits. Perhaps tap into a Eliud Kipchoge or Brandi Chastain moment in the midst of all that is. The books that fell this week helped me do that.
I am writing this as we watch a Zoom concert of a friend live from Key West – not knowing when we will be able to see him play live again. I miss friends. I miss hog fish sandwiches and lobster rolls. I miss pina colada buckets and Angelina’s pizza and the Durtbags and Boat House Happy Hour. I miss plans. I miss weekends away. I miss not feeling guilty that I miss things. I miss life without anger and fear. I watch the sunset in the background that frames his guitar. I think about his wedding on the water that was just a few months ago – in December of 2019. How different things were then. I sigh.
